About the event
Kaynan Duarte is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Pederneiras, Sao Paulo. Born on January 24, 1998, Duarte trains under Andre Galvao and represents the San Diego-based Atos team. He is the 2019 ADCC champion in the +99kg division.
Duarte is known for success in both gi and no-gi. He broke onto the jiu-jitsu scene in 2017 as a purple belt by winning the ADCC Trials. He tapped out former ADCC champion Pablo Popovitch in the opening round of the 88kg division at the 2017 ADCC World Championships. Since then he has gone on to become one of the best known and most successful grapplers in the world. As a black belt he won many major titles including the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro (2019), IBJJF Pan Championship (2019), KASAI Pro 5 Heavyweight Grand Prix, Spyder Invitational (2019), IBJJF World No-Gi Championship (2018).
